The main house is at the top of a hill. Standing in front of the house looking down the
hill you see the springhouse (see map). From the front the springhouse has one visible level, from
the back you see two levels, inside there are three. The spring is in the lowest level.
Around the inside of the structure are shelves where produce and other perishables were
stored - the most perishable at the bottom with less perishable on shelves around the
highest level. Springhouses like this were common before the advent of ice boxes and
refrigerators. The water from the spring is cold all year round and thus the inside of
the springhouse was kept cool and prolonged the life of perishable items stored there.
